Supporting local businesses and small shops is crucial in these difficult times. It is not just for the question of simple survival of these small businesses but also about keeping our neighbourhoods and cities alive. EU quarter in Brussels is one of the most buzzing parts of the city but it has been heavily affected with the Covid-19 pandemic, mostly due to the teleworking practices as well as due to the general lockdown measures. However, the local businesses and associations are keeping the lights on.
Similar to the lockdown period during March and April 2020, the quartier around carrefour Jean Monnet is very quiet. In recent weeks, it had already been severely affected by the closure of restaurants and cafes / taverns but, since Monday, it is even more so with the obligatory closure of the so-called non-essential businesses.
But, this does not mean that there is no more activity in the neighbourhood… au contraire! These are many stores and shops which are keeping their doors open for you.
You can visit the bookstore PUNTO Y COMA, the Opticians Vanderdonckt, the two chocolatiers – Centho and Neuhaus, the two pharmacies – Pharmacie Berlaymont, and PharmaCity Schuman, the caterer “Casa Italiana“, the “Thé14 Tea and coffee shop” house, the “Gourmet International Food” store and its Scandinavian products, the store “Les Annees Lumière” and Beauty House brands which provide a sales service adapted to the current sanitary measures. The two stores with newspapers and magazines are also open as well as the Roots organic food store, the “Sabores De España” brand which will open shortly, the Indian grocery store on Rue Franklin and the two Night shops. Also, let’s not forget the hotels in the area – many of them remained open despite the fact that there are no more foreign tourists coming to Brussels at the moment.
The merchants of the district face up to the gloomy ambient and are determined to keep the district alive.
Thank you for supporting the small businesses and be sure to follow the ACCJM – Association of commercants carrefour Jean Monnet facebook page for the latest info about this quartier.
