Even though most of Brussels hotels are closed during the Covid-19 confinement measures, there are some inspiring stories coming from the hotels in our city. Thon Hotel EU, located in the heart of the EU district, hosts a vegetable garden, 3 beehives and an insects hotel on its rooftop terrace.
At first, we were surprised to learn that such garden exists inside Thon Hotel EU. At this Brussels hotel, life continues as volunteer employees take care of the garden and the beekeeper of the bee hives which are located on the hotel’s rooftop terrace.
Emma Lemaitre from the Thon Hotels shared their story with us:
“We have a vegetable garden on our roof that we use for cooking. Volunteer employees take care of the garden which is their project and allows them to carry out their activity away from their work. The hives are managed by our beekeeper M. Paternotte and they produce honey which we offer to our clients.”
It is worth noting that Thon Hotel EU is one of the rare hotels open these days although it operates with very specific rules such as:
· Hotel has around ten clients a day, mainly airlines
· Breakfast is served only in the room
· Safe distance is kept and no contact with staff
· Hydro alcoholic gels are provided at the reception
