Photo story: Expats Golf Trophy 2019

What a great way to spend a day! On the April 24th we ventured to the golf courses of the Golf club d’Hulencourt near Brussels to attend the 4th Expat Golf Trophy.

This annual competition is organized as an opportunity to meet new people, compete in a friendly environment or simply learn to play for those who never played golf before.

The Expat Golf Trophy is organised with the support of BNP Paribas Fortis, in collaboration with business partners such as the British, Dutch, French, and Chinese Chamber of Commerce. “We are always happy to be part of the events which are strengthening the bonds between expats and the locals” says Salvatore Orlando, Head of Expatriates at BNP Paribas Fortis. He also emphasized that “both expats and locals like to expand their circle and this event at Golf Club d’Hulencourt is a wonderful opportunity to meet new people in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere”.

The Expat Golf Trophy takes place on the golf courses around the beautiful 17th century building. Located in Vieux-Genappe just 30 minutes away from Brussels, the club prides itself on maintaining the highest level of Anglo-Scottish golfing tradition – from the club etiquette right down to the stately home decor. This golf club has more than 400 members with a considerable percentage of expats.

It is worth noting that newbie players have a chance to participate in the initiation session and learn the basics of the game. To non-golfers, the game can seem like an endless depth of rules, etiquette and lingo that often frightens them from joining. But the game, whether you hit it straight into the hole or right into the river, has some obvious bonuses.

The Expats Golf Trophy is a very well organized event, geared towards both experienced and new golfers with plenty of opportunities to meet new people (great buffet lunch, open bar networking time + awards ceremony cocktail at the end of the program). Diego Tasso, the organiser, shared his observation – “People are always impressed when they visit our club and the golf courses. This is why many of them come the year after and bring their friends along.” He also added that this year, participants had a chance to compete on the newly renovated “Le Vallon” course (first 9 holes are renovated, 9 more to be finished soon).
