Launch of the #ShareTheColor campaign

As we approach the Pride Parade on May 18th, equal.brussels will present the #sharethecolor campaign on May 7th. Through this campaign, equal.brussels wants to break stereotypes and taboos, and promote respect for different sexual orientations and gender identities.

“The aim of the campaign is to bring the concept of intersectionality to the fore, literally and figuratively, in the Brussels-Capital Region. Intersectionality analyzes the social position of individuals who must undergo various complex forms of domination and oppression because of their gender, race, nationality, origin, religion, sexual orientation, age … and social inequality. For many people in big cities, it’s a daily reality, “says Karima Zahi, project manager at equal.brussels.

equal.brussels wants to establish equal opportunities for all inhabitants of the Brussels Region, regardless of gender, ethnic or cultural origin, sexual orientation or disability. Despite all the laws and regulations that exist today, all citizens are still not on an equal footing when it comes to finding a job, taking on responsibilities or finding a place to rent.

Often public transport, public space and buildings are not fully accessible to everyone. Parks, streets or public lighting are sometimes not adapted to the specific needs of people traveling in wheelchairs or with strollers or blind or visually impaired people.

Finally, some groups of the population, such as women or homosexuals, are more often victims of violence, whether in the public space (insults, assaults) or in the private sphere (domestic and intrafamilial violence).
