Brussels Coffee Week 2018

Brussels Coffee Week is all about sharing a common passion, between professionals and amateurs. A week dedicated to passion, taste, sharing moments and enjoy the great product that is coffee. The event also aims to educate about the preparation, the good products, origins…

The event gathers coffee amateurs and professionals mainly about specialty coffee but also traditional coffee. It offers: roasting, projections, workshops, cuppings & more.

Launched in 2016, the Brussels Coffee Week team (#BCW18) is back. Taking your coffee outdoors, on the spot or to take away, is more than ever a habit anchored in the daily lives of many people living in major urban centers.

Brussels is no exception to the rule and has seen the number of coffee bar openings increase in recent years. Coffee latte, espresso, long black, single or double shots are all terms that consumers have come to know and use daily from the first hour of the day. And even if the cappuccino remains the undisputed star (especially on social networks!). New recipes are also on the rise: cold brew, green coffee infused or even more surprising, the nitro coffee, a coffee iced with nitrogen !

On the website OK coffee tips, the organisers shared a few great insights:

BRUSSELS AND SPECIALTY COFFEE, A FUTURE LOVE STORY.

Across major cosmopolitan cities, specialty coffee has grown. Going way beyond the cleavage of the bearded hipster wearing a Canadian shirt, coffee drinkers have understood that the « specialty » niche is the only option possible when you expect quality and transparency for your favorite drink. New York, Paris, London, Amsterdam and many other cities have seen their Coffee Week, Coffee Day and Coffee Fest. Brussels, although the capital city of Europe, with a large number of tourists and expats, had very few initiatives and specialty shops. Then in 2015, the local scene gave it a boost (see the two articles I wrote in 2016 for the largest European site for information on specialty coffee, European Coffee Trip: BRUSSELS ‘DEFEAT OF THE LUNGO and FRESH 2016 ADDITIONS TO BRUSSELS ‘COFFEE SCENE). Beyond the city center or the European district, the latest newbie is Café Germaine, who has just opened in Stockel. This district of Brussels is off the tourist radar, and proves that specialty coffee is for everyone. Brussels is finally ready!

A CAFFEINATED WEEK!

Since 2016, Brussels Coffee Week is the key event in Belgium, if you want to better understand coffee, whether you are a professional or an enthusiast. That week will be an opportunity to participate in various fun and interesting workshops. It will also give you the opportunity to interact closely with the players of this environment, and why not raise new vocations!

In the previous editions, we were treated to introductory coffee workshops (how and where it grows, what happens in the countries of origin, how to evaluate a coffee, commodity? specialty? …), roastery visits, coffee leftovers and cosmetic workshops, slow coffee and filtered methods, and so on. This year there will even be two competitions !! A Latte Art Throwdown and a championship dedicated to the profession of barista, the Kompas, whose theme will be coffee and cocktails.

Events are free, and the program is going to be unveiled this week if it’s not already done.
