Yes, this happened in April 2015 and it was a very funny moment, a piece of news that made everyone smile. Three zebras were on the loose in the Belgian capital since they escaped from a local zebra ranch. Zebras have led police and zookeepers on a trotting-speed chase in Brussels, as documented by the media and videos and photographs posted on social media.
It is thought that they used the Van Praet tunnel to walk to the centre of Brussels, where they enjoyed a casual stroll along the canal. Images also showed the animals – passing behind moving cars.
It was funny to hear the warnings: “be careful, there are three zebras walking around in Brussels”. Luckily, police said no one was injured by the animals. On Twitter and other social media, #zebragate went viral, and many international media like Guardian, Telegraph and BBC, reported about this funny ‘event’ in our city.
