COLLECTIBLE, the pioneering fair dedicated exclusively to 21st-century contemporary collectible design, returns to the Vanderborght building in Brussels for its third edition from 5 – 8 March 2020.
Experimental in its approach, COLLECTIBLE is a one of a kind platform for the showcase and discovery of the best in collectible design today. Seeking to continuously push the boundaries of creativity, the fair brings together established and emerging galleries, designers and design studios in a dynamic integrated space and collaborates with leading curators, design institutions and foundations to deliver groundbreaking commissions and curated projects. The third edition of COLLECTIBLE presents an expanded roster of over 100 international exhibitors and an exciting new panorama of unique and limited-edition works by practitioners from a mixed range of disciplines, sitting at the crossroads of design, architecture and art.
In addition to established galleries MANIERA (Brussels), valerie_traan (Antwerp) and Todd Merrill (New York), cutting-edge galleries including Functional Art Gallery (Berlin), CAMP Design Gallery (Milan), and Everyday Gallery (Antwerp) return to the fair, while Galerie KRL (Eindhoven) and Side Gallery (Barcelona) joins for the first time.
Interdisciplinary spaces and ateliers, renowned for their innovative and experimental approaches, further enrich the depth and scope of the fair. London-based Blue Mountain School conceives a special project bringing together sustainable design in line with their core mission. Emerging design hub and residency Zaventem Ateliers, located outside Brussels, feature new works by talented makers based in the communal workshop. This year also sees the introduction of BESPOKE, a brand-new section showcasing signature works by individual designers and design studios through fresh creations and high-end commissions. Among the highlights, DIM Atelier, reputed for their level of craftsmanship, showcase new eye-catching lighting pieces in bronze, while BRUT Collective (Brussels) present a variation of their second edition of BODEM, a curated ensemble of art and design pieces produced in collaboration with Belgian architectural practice Antoine Architectural Finishes.
The CURATED SECTION, dedicated to designers and design studios with no gallery representation, is a space for radical experimentation and discovery where participants are required to explore pioneering ideas and processes in design. Curated and selected by advisor Brent Dzekciorius, exhibitors in this
section include Albane Salmon from Atelier Sauvage (Paris), Studio Cober (Maastricht) and Supertoys Supertoys (Rotterdam), among others. The overall fair scenography is entrusted to multidisciplinary Studio Döppel (Paris). Working together on a joint commission, Belgium’s leading design institutions Design Museum Gent, ADAM-Design Museum Brussels and CID du Grand-Hornu are returning to the fair, while first time participant Z33-House for Contemporary Art, Design & Architecture in Hasselt present their winning FORMAT laureate. The fair’s scenography this year will be created by Rotterdam-based architectural practice Atelier Tomas Dirrix. The fair intends to take visitors on a multisensory journey like never before, with multiple displays relating to taste, sight and sound. This year’s Selection Committee is composed of notable figures from the world of design including Olivier Gabet, Director of the MAD – Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, Alexis Georgacopoulos, Director of the University of Art and Design in Lausanne, Dieter Vander Velpen, Founder of Dieter Vander Velpen Architects in Antwerp, Brent Dzekciorius, Founder of Dzek in London, and Annalisa Rosso, Editor-in-Chief of Icon Design magazine Italy.
About the fair
Established in 2018 by art and design professionals Clélie Debehault and Liv Vaisberg, COLLECTIBLE is the only fair in the world to solely focus on 21st century design. Breaking away from the traditional fair format, COLLECTIBLE seeks to reinterpret the design fair format, COLLECTIBLE seeks to reinterpret the design fair model by offering visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in an open and integrated space where designers, design studios, galleries, institutions and foundations come together. Located in central Brussels, COLLECTIBLE contributes to positioning Belgium as a place for innovation and a vibrant international design destination.
